Regal, the one-time original founding member of both The Wiseguys (Wall Of
Sound) and Bronx Dogs (Heavenly/Marble Bar), two of the UK's most revered
underground acts of the 90s
After touring Australia in early 1997, Regal left The Wiseguys to form 'Bronx
Dogs'. They released the classic B-Boy anthem, "Tribute To Jazzy Jay" in Dec'97
and went on to release 2 more club classics - "212(The Weya Funk)" / "Mixed
Blood (Mambo roc')". They also released 2 albums, "Three Legged Funk" in 2000
(Heavenly Records) and "Enviro" 2001 (Marble Bar Records).
In 1998 DJ Regal launched his record label, 'Marble Bar', putting out Bronx Dogs
and others, over a span of 15 12" singles and 7 albums in 3 years, concentrating
on funky Hip Hop n Dancefloor tracks.
In early 2002, after touring with the Australian 'Vibes On A Summers Day'
festival & settling in Oz, Regal remixed the ARIA award-winning single "Karma"
by Melbourne's 1200 Techniques.
In July '04 Regal began his long-term residency at Sydney's massive "Boogie
Down" night (at Candy's Apartment). This night proved Regal's abilities to rock
the house to the absolute max, with dynamite 2hr sets that not only encompassed
Hip Hop n Funk, but Nu-Soul, B-Boy Breaks and Disco. From this night, Regal won
3-D magazine's (50,000+ copies per wk, Sydney & Melbourne) Hip Hop DJ of the
year award for 2004.
Now back in Sydney, Regal has just finished remixing All Good Funk Alliance,
having recently completed recording his debut solo album back in May & is now
starting on his 2nd solo album tracks as i write - no slowing down for this old
dog! Most recently Regal has been nominated for Best DJ in the national inaugral
Australian Dance Music Awards and has made the final four .
Regal also hosts his own weekly radio show, "The Musiquarium", on Bondi Fm,
spinning Soul, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Latin, Electronica, Leftfield and other
goodies, from 2-4pmevery Friday. This show is available to listen to, worldwide
via the web (www.bondifm.com).
Regal’s debut album LOOP DREAMS is set to be released worldwide through UNIQUE
RECORDS in march/april 2007.
Encompassing Regal's Hip Hop roots and a fresh batch of dusty breaks, this DJ
set delivers solid beats with a great blend of Funk-Fusion samples & deep
grooves.
